Remote Activation of NanoBattery Demonstrated

mPhase/AlwaysReady, Inc. has successfully demonstrated the remote activation of its Smart NanoBattery.

Building on the electrical activation mechanism revealed earlier this week, the remote mechanism offers another way to obtain power on command from the NanoBattery that has virtually unlimited shelf-life. Remote activation is especially relevant for applications involving RFID tags for inventory control and asset tracking, unmanned ground sensors, and wireless sensor networks whereby individual sensors can be deployed and activated from a distant source when desired. Currently, sensors are typically outfitted with batteries that discharge as soon as the device is assembled. Given its unique nanostructured architecture, the Smart NanoBattery experiences no leakage current until activated for the first time. To date, no battery completely fits the cost, form, and fit profile necessary to remotely power sensors.
