NanoBioNet Acting as Representative of Leading German Technology at Nano Korea 2008

Nano is the voice of the future. Germany recognised this early on and, together with the USA, Japan and Korea, it now ranks amongst the leading nations in this sector of research and of the economy.

NanoBioNet, the pre-eminent centre of excellence for nanobiotechnology in Germany, is acting as representative of the leading German technology at Nano Korea 2008, the 6th International Nanotech Symposium & Exhibition in Korea. Nano Korea is considered to be one of the most significant high technology fairs in the Asia Pacific area. It will be held in Goyang from 27 to 29 August 2008. NanoBioNet, together with its affiliated companies, will be located at Stand D41 where it will present highlights of their product portfolios.

Nano Know-How Made in Germany

Germany recognises both the opportunities and the risks involved in nanotechnology and is actively engaged in establishing and enforcing international standards. The Federal Government contributes approximately 300 million euros a year for research in this field, more than any other European government. Experts anticipate a market potential for nanotechnology in the year 2015 of up to one billion euros.

Around half of all European companies working in the field of nanotechnology have their head office in Germany. 440 of the 560 companies in total are small and medium sized enterprises. Between 50,000 and 100,000 jobs are already directly or indirectly dependent on nanotechnology in Germany.

The first products to be targeted for utilisation of nanotechnology were self-cleaning coatings and surfaces. Meanwhile, applications which had long occupied the realm of fantasy are finding their way into the realm of reality: particles which make tumours shrivel up, DVDs the size of a coin, omnifunctional sensor technology in the car. Nanotechnologies are being used in numerous industries – some of them even revolutionising the sector.
