Zeus Developing New Technology in the Field of Electrospinning

Zeus, Inc. announces a new technology platform in the field of electrospinning, a process that produces polymer fibers with thicknesses ranging from the nano to microscale. Zeus is able to develop fabrics with complex shapes from solutions, pastes, and bioabsorbables. The result is a broad range of fiber and fabric properties that are able to meet some of the most challenging demands.

Electrospun polymers produce fibers and fabrics with high surface to weight and volume ratios, which makes these materials excellent candidates for controlled biological interactions and filtration media (stand alone and coding).

In the biological area, the porous nature of the fabric allows for the formation of implantable structures within the body. Cellular growth is allowed as the electrospun fabric acts as a scaffolding to permit integration into the body. In the case of bioabsorbable materials, the scaffolding is eventually absorbed, leaving a structure of the body's own cells intact. To meet application demands, Zeus is able to introduce additives, ranging from therapeutic agents to property modifiers, into the solutions that are then incorporated into the fibers and fabrics.

"Embarking on this new technology platform demonstrates Zeus' long-standing commitment to innovation, research, and superior customer support," said Bruce Anneaux, Corporate Manager, Research and Development. "We are excited about the electrospinning process and what this means for our partners in terms of enhancing and creating new solutions for challenging applications.
