Machine Tool Measurement Systems with Nanometre Resolution

Fagor Automation, a subsidiary of the MONDRAGON Corporation that specialises in the manufacture of components for the general machine tools and automation sector, designs, manufactures and exports numerical control systems, position display units and high-precision encoders with nanometre-scale resolution.

The company's products - linear and rotary encoders - are based on optical-transmission or light-reflectance technology, and the electrical components, which are developed by the company itself, are manufactured to a high degree of miniaturisation.

Fagor Automation's devices provide accurate and repeatable measurements with a resolution of up to 50 nanometres. Despite this, the company is continuing to develop its technological strategy in order to achieve new and improved nanometre-scale resolution.

Fagor Automation undertakes all stages from the design and manufacture of the so-called masters up to the mass production of its linear and angular encoders. The company has four manufacturing sites, one in Beijing (China) and the other three in Gipuzkoa (Eskoriatza, Arrasate and Usurbil), and supplies a large number of clients, including large multinationals in the machine tools sector. Around 80% of its production is destined for export to countries such as Germany, the USA, China, Taiwan and Brazil.
