Xcell Journal Features Xilinx 16nm UltraScale+ Devices

Xilinx®, Inc. today announced immediate availability of the winter 2015 edition of its award-winning user magazine, Xcell Journal. The cover story for the 90th issue of Xcell Journal takes a system-level look at Xilinx's newly unveiled UltraScale+™ product portfolio of FPGAs, 3D ICs, and MPSoCs, and how the portfolio yields a 2-5X greater system level performance-per-watt advantage over 28nm devices.

By implementing the UltraScale+ portfolio in TSMC's 16nm FF+ (FinFET) process and innovative new Xilinx UltraRAM, 3D-on-3D, heterogeneous multi-processing, and SmartConnect technologies, Xilinx is able to deliver a generation ahead of value. Xcell Journal is available as a one-click PDF download or can be read online in iPad/iPod-compatible ISSUU electronic magazine format.

Xcell Journal issue 90 also includes a mix of methodology and how-to articles. In one of these methodology articles, engineers from Braunschweig University of Technology (Germany) describe how they are using space-grade Virtex® FPGAs in the Polarimetric and Helioseismic Imager (PHI), which will be launched in 2017 as part of the European Space Agency's Solar Orbiter mission. In a how-to article, researchers at PES Institute of Technology (Bangalore, India) detail how they ported PetaLinux into their FPGA design. In addition, e2V's chief engineer, Adam Taylor, walks readers through how to use the Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC for asymmetric multi-processing.

Articles in this issue include:

  • Xilinx 16nm UltraScale+ Devices Yield 2-5X Performance/Watt Advantage
  • Solar Orbiter Will Process Data Onboard Using Xilinx FPGAs
  • 60G Millimeter-Wave Backhaul Link Is Poised to Boost Cellular Capacity
  • MACsec IP Improves Data Center Security
  • Simplify Your 'Hot' Testing with Xilinx's Zynq SoC
  • A Double-Barreled Way to Get the Most from Your Zynq SoC
