Official Opening of Brookhaven Lab's Center for Functional Nanomaterials

U.S. Congressman Timothy Bishop and Patricia Dehmer, DOE’s Associate Director of Science for Basic Energy Sciences, will officially open Brookhaven Lab’s new Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN), one of five nanoscale science research centers funded by DOE’s Office of Science. CFN Director Emilio Mendez and Brookhaven Lab Director Samuel Aronson will speak about the CFN’s vital role in stimulating nanoscience research in the northeastern U.S.

Scientists from Brookhaven Lab and academic and industrial organizations throughout the Northeast will use the CFN’s unique array of tools to explore and develop nanoscale materials aimed at helping the U.S. achieve energy independence. Research areas include: nanostructured catalysts to improve the efficiency of fuel cells and manufacturing processes; technologies based on biological molecules to improve energy conversion and molecular self-assembly; and new electronic materials to improve solar energy conversion and storage devices. Following the dedication, reporters will be offered CFN tours, a lunchtime nanoscience tutorial, and one-on-one interviews with key scientists.

Please RSVP to Karen McNulty Walsh, (631) 344-8350, or Mona S. Rowe, (631) 344-5056.
