SEMATECH and its subsidiary,
the International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI), will host their
annual 2009 SEMATECH/ISMI Symposia in Hsin-chu, Taiwan, on 15 September, and
in Tokyo, Japan, on 17 September.
“We believe that global collaboration is the key to our industry’s
long-term success, especially given the current economic challenges, and we
look forward to continuing the many excellent relationships we have forged with
members, partners, and colleagues in Japan and Taiwan,” said Dr. Michael
Polcari, SEMATECH president and CEO. “The Symposia are forums for exchanging
ideas on how we can work together to speed the development of advanced technology
in areas such as EUV lithography, 3D interconnects, advanced gate stacks, new
materials, and future transistors.”
On the afternoon of 15 September, the 2nd Annual SEMATECH/ISMI Symposium Taiwan
will be held at the Ambassador Hotel in Hsin-chu. The event, designed to foster
interaction with Taiwan semiconductor manufacturers and equipment/materials
suppliers, will feature presentations on critical areas of advanced and emerging
technologies, as well as program updates and technology development highlights
from senior management of SEMATECH and ISMI.
Additionally, SEMATECH/ISMI will host the 5th Annual SEMATECH/ISMI Symposium
Japan on the afternoon of 17 September at the Hyatt Regency, Tokyo. The Symposium
will feature executive presentations on ISMI’s progress in increasing
manufacturing productivity, reducing costs, and driving sustainable manufacturing
in today’s and tomorrow’s fabs, as well as interactive technical
sessions during which SEMATECH and Japanese industry and university colleagues
will present various perspectives on some of the industry’s most critical
lithography, interconnect, and materials challenges.
Leading up to the Japan Symposium will be ISMI Manufacturing Week, a series
of sessions on 15-17 September at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo, devoted to special
technical workshops and forums open to employees of ISMI member companies and
invited supplier participants. Scheduled Manufacturing Week events include:
- Alternate Source Supplier Workshop and Exhibition
- Implant Productivity Improvement Workshop
- ISMI Metrology Technical Update Meeting
- 450mm Briefing (open to the public)
- ISMI Facilities Council Japan Meeting
- ISMI Mature Fabs Committee Japan Meeting
“Our collaborative ISMI programs cover the spectrum from fundamental
cost-saving activities in today’s fabs to strategies for transitioning
to next-generation 300mm and 450mm factories,” said Scott Kramer, Vice
President of Manufacturing Technology. “We appreciate the opportunity
in both Taiwan and Japan to share perspectives on how to drive manufacturing
improvements, build infrastructure for the transition to 450mm, and find ways
to conserve resources and reduce the industry’s environmental footprint
while still improving productivity and profitability.”
