Certified Gold Reference Standard Nanoparticles

A review of publications on nanotechnology related research and applications reveals the widespread use of gold in nanotechnology. The word nanotechnology (a nanometre is a billionth of a metre) is something of a catch-all term for techniques that permit material of this size to be manufactured and used.

Gold Reference Standards

BBInternational’s gold nanoparticles have been selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as the source for a series of certified reference materials for pre-clinical biomedical research.

Applications for Gold Reference Standards

NIST, which is a US federal agency, will use BBnternational’s colloidal gold nanoparticles to create nanoscale reference materials for the evaluation and qualification of methodology and instrument performance. This means that companies involved in the fields of research and diagnostics will be able to ensure that their equipment is performing within the required QC parameters for the measurement and characterisation of quality nanoparticles.

BBInternational

BBInternational has been a leading global provider of gold nanoparticles to the life science and diagnostic industries since 1986, with customers relying on the company’s stringent quality assurance procedures for consistent stability and reproducibility. BBInternational’s proprietary manufacturing technique allows the consistent production of large volumes of highly spherical, mono disperse gold nanoparticles in pre-determined sizes, which are widely used in rapid lateral flow assays.

BBInternational's Collaboration with NIST

Commenting on the collaboration, Lyn Rees, CEO of BBInternational’s Diagnostics Division said: “We are delighted that our gold has been recognised by NIST as the reference standard in this category. Everything we do at BBI is governed by quality and this collaboration with NIST further supports the ‘Gold Standard’ reputation that BBI gold has worked hard to achieve within the industry. We look forward to working with NIST in communicating this message, and supporting the industry with our expertise in the field.”

Production of Gold Colloids

BBInternational’s gold colloid is produced using a unique recipe and quality process which allows production of gold colloid in pre-determined sizes, with optimum roundness, uniform shape, and less than 8% CV for cluster free, stable gold to enhance sensitivity and performance. The company has built a strong customer base throughout the world providing reagents and services to a client base spanning small universities through to blue chip diagnostic industry leaders.
