MEMS Display and Imaging Company Wins 2007 North American American Technology Innovation Award

Based on its recent impact analysis of MEMS-based sensors and actuators on industrial automation, Frost & Sullivan has presented Microvision, Inc. with the 2007 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation. The award recognizes Microvision for its business advancements and design of a bi-directional MEMS scanning mirror to be integrated in its PicoP display engine.

PicoP is an ultra-miniature projector that can display large, high-contrast, color-rich, high-resolution images, but is small and low-power enough to be embedded directly into mobile devices, such as cellular phones. PicoP is being developed to address a large market opportunity that derives from consumers' desire for a better viewing experience than currently is available from traditional small displays on mobile devices. Other potential display applications enabled by PicoP include tiny projectors embedded into or used as accessory displays for mobile devices such as personal media players, gaming devices, laptops, DVD players and digital cameras. Microvision is also seeking to integrate the PicoP into vehicle displays, including automotive and aerospace head-up displays, as well as wearable full-color displays designed as fashionable eyewear.

Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst S. Menaka, stated, "By incorporating MEMS-based scanning technology as the foundation for its PicoP display engine, we believe Microvision is capable of meeting the demanding performance, size, cost and volume requirements of its customers for high-volume, diverse market applications and products.

"Microvision's advancements in the design and integration of MEMS, new business strategy, and long-term customer and partner relationships position the company well to take advantage of the unprecedented demand for its display and imaging solutions."

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents the Technology Innovation Award to a company (or individual) that has carried out new research, which has resulted in innovation(s) that have or are expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. The Award recognizes the quality and depth of a company's research and development program as well as the vision and risk-taking that enabled it to undertake such an endeavor.
