Nanotechnology Paving the Way for Interactive Clothing
Scientists at the University of Michigan have succeeded in permeating cotton
with a combination of a polymer material and carbon nanotubes, producing conducive
mini-cables that are powerful enough to charge an LED light. This new technology
has use in such applications as alerting the wearer of environmental allergens,
monitoring vital signs or even changing the fabric configuration to provide
a cooling effect.
