Background
Dr Yan had a BEng, a MEng and a PhD from the University of Sydney. He had been
appointed by the China High Education Committee as a Guest Researcher in the
State Key Laboratory of Materials Strength in 2000-2001. He had been an Australian
Research Council (ARC) Australia Research Fellow in the University of Sydney
since 2003. In 2009, Dr Yan was promoted to Associate Professor after serving
as senior lecturer since 2006.
His main research areas include:
- polymer nanocomposites
- synthesis of novel materials via mechanical milling
- deformation and fracture of nanocrystalline and amorphous alloys
- mechanical behaviour of thin films in micro- and nanodevices
- microelectronic and photonic packaging
