The european society for precision engineering and nanotechnology - euspen - has named Cranfield University's Professor Paul Shore as President, commencing July 2011.

Formed in 1999, with funding from the European Community, euspen provides an entrepeneurial platform that enables companies and research institutes to promote their latest technology developments, products and services in precision engineering and nanotechnoloy and keep up to date with those in the field. Professor Shore moves up to the role from the Vice Presidency, replacing current President Henny Spaan, who has held the position since 2009.

Professor Paul Shore Heads the Cranfield University Precision Engineering Centre. He is also the Director of the Ultra Precision and Structured Surfaces Integrated Knowledge Centre (UPS2). A respected figure in precision engineering, Professor Shore is currently involved in leading research on next generation products, processes and technologies in precision engineering, including space optics and high power laser optics production, rapid fabrication of ultra precision surfaces, precision machine tool design and development, diamond turning and micro-milling, re-active atom plasma figuring and fluid film bearing development.
