Maxim Acquires SensorDynamics to Develop MEMS-based Sensors
Maxim declared the acquisition of SensorDynamics, a company that offers proprietary microelectromechanical (MEMS) and sensor solutions. This acquisition enables Maxim to expand its operations in high-end consumer and automotive markets.
This acquisition allows SensorDynamics to make use of Maxim's sales infrastructure, distribution, and manufacturing. It will enable the company to emerge as a leader in the inertial sensor, sensor interface and wireless connectivity markets.
SensorDynamics has patents for a number of MEMS sensor technologies. The company has conducted research for almost 800 years in wireless connectivity solutions and MEMS sensors.
Innovative applications for sensors are being developed that attribute to the growth of MEMS-based sensor market. The market for MEMS-based sensors is anticipated to reach $7.7 billion in 2011 as per the report released by the IHS iSuppli. Out of the total market, about $900 million is addressed by the gyroscope inertial sensor technology from SensorDynamics. IHS iSuppli predicts that the market for MEMS-based sensors will evolve at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 % in a period of 3 years.
The current objective of SensorDynamics in the automotive market sector is in line with Maxim's focus to develop its automotive business. Maxim implements the sensor technology from SensorDynamics to meet the demands of the high-end consumer market.
