Background

He is currently the Director of the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI). He also leads the Materials Modelling Centre and is involved in the mathematical and computer modelling of a range of materials and physical systems. His current research interests are principally in the mesoscopic and molecular modelling of complex fluids using Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics and lattice Boltzmann methods.

Major Qualifications

He graduated in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University (1969), having specialised in theoretical physics, and subsequently obtained a PhD from the University of Sheffield (1973) for work on the theory of a metal to insulator transition.
