DFG to Establish Nine New Collaborative Research Centres from Cancer Research to Statistical Models

Effective 1 July 2009, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) will establish nine new Collaborative Research Centres. This decision has just been made by the responsible Grants Committee of the DFG at its spring session in Bonn.

Unique Translational Model Focuses on the Disease, Drug Targets and Clinical Development

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), the Entertainment Industry Foundation's charitable initiative supporting groundbreaking research aimed at getting new cancer treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe, has reached a significant milestone, awarding the first round of three-year grants - that total $73.6 million - to five multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research Dream Teams.

PI Ramping Up its Manufacturing Capabilities in the US

PI (Physik Instrumente) L.P. a leading manufacturer of nanopositioning and precision motion control equipment for the optics, photonics, semiconductor, bio/nanotechnology and medical industries, is ramping up its manufacturing capabilities in the US. Last year, the company hired Philip Greene as VP of Engineering and Manufacturing. Greene brings extensive technical knowledge in the design and manufacture of ultra-precision motion systems.

Funding Supports Establishment of Dedicated Nanotechnology Laboratory

The PPG Industries Foundation, a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fiber glass, has pledged $500,000 to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh for a laboratory focused on the rapidly developing field of nanoscience.
