New Skies for the London Centre for Nanotechnology Business Director

Dr Thierry Bontoux has stepped down from his position of Deputy Director of the LCN in charge of Business. His decision will be effective from the 31st of December 2009 and he will then focus on his new venture.

TBx-Consulting, the company he created will focus on Business and Project management on behalf of various clients acting in fields of high technologies. His company already has a large network of scientific and business management expert spanning over two continents.

Dr Thierry Bontoux, French born and living in the UK since 2006, comes from the industry where he held position in France and UK at senior level. Dr Bontoux Joined the LCN early 2009 as Deputy Director, business with key responsibilities in marketing, web and Media presence, development of the strategic direction of the LCN and the securing of appropriate streams of income. He worked closely with senior academics to ensure that high-value LCN facilities are managed with adequate business planning. His other role at the LCN was to develop the connections and relations of the institute with the industry in general.

He has a scientific background with a PhD in 1998 from the University of Osaka (Japan) Institute for Laser Engineering. During that time he studied the simulation of light propagation in refractive media and the bi-stability of light in media with non-linear refractive indexes. He has also completed a Masters in Engineering Physics focusing on development and maintenance of large scientific facilities: high power currents, lasers, vacuum and cryogenics.

In 1999, he joined SAGEM (France - Paris), a military and telecommunication corporate, and became product manager for a line of IR sighting systems for the artillery. Beginning 2004, he joined Reims Aerospace SAS as Director of Project at an aviation substructure manufacturer located in Reims (France - 200km east of Paris), before moving in 2006 to UK with his family to join AeroMobile Ltd (a start-up company based in Crawley - West Sussex) as director of administration and procurement. AeroMobile Ltd was created as a joined venture between ARINC, Inc (Pioneer in aviation telecommunication) and Telenor SAS (7th world operator).

Dr Bontoux Joined the LCN early 2009 as Deputy Director, business with key responsibilities in marketing, web and Media presence, development of the strategic direction of the LCN and the securing of appropriate streams of income. He will also work closely with senior academics to ensure LCN high-value user facilities are managed with adequate business planning.
