International Conference on Quantum Physics to be Held at Max Planck Institute

The third international conference on the history of quantum physics will be held at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, building on the momentum generated by two previous conferences held in Berlin (2007) and in Utrecht (2008).

The conference will bring together internationally acclaimed historians, philosophers and physicists whose aim is to combine a genuinely historical perspective with a broader understanding of the foundations and implications of quantum physics.

The conference results from a collaboration between the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. Launched in 2006, it comprises a large international group of eminent historians, philosophers of science and working physicists from Berkeley to Sidney and from Salvador de Bahia to Peking. Its aim is to create a dialogue between theoretical and historical perspectives and practical insights from modern physics. The thematic horizon of the conference extends from the classical traditions in which quantum physics is rooted, through the genesis of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, to the history of its appropriation in newly-emerging fields of modern research.
