3D MEMS Technology Provider CALIENT Appoints New Board of Directors

CALIENT Technologies, Inc., the global leader for optical switching technology, today announced the appointment of technology industry leaders Mike Chandler and Edgar Masri to its board of directors.

CALIENT is best known for its reliable 3D microelectromechanical-systems (MEMS) technology, a breakthrough photonic switching system that offers the highest capacity and density in the industry.

“CALIENT’s proven track record in the 3D MEMS market paired with the flexibility of its new strategy position the company for success in these new markets and I look forward to being a part of this next move for CALIENT." The addition of Chandler and Masri expands CALIENT’s board of directors to nine members. The new additions help to position CALIENT to more aggressively pursue high-growth markets such as government and intelligence, data center and cloud computing, service providers, fiber-to-the-home and next-generation optical networks.

“I am delighted to have Mike and Edgar join the board, as they bring deep experience in CALIENT’s core markets, and also great insights on what it takes to scale CALIENT in the service provider, data center and government market segments,” said Arjun Gupta, CALIENT Chairman. “We’re now executing on our CALIENT 3D MEMS Inside strategy, and I am confident that both these industry veterans will be instrumental in the success of this new initiative."

Chandler is the former president of General Dynamics Information Technology where he worked with customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, Federal, civil and commercial sectors. Prior to his work with General Dynamics, Chandler served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University, a Masters of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School and is also a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program.

“CALIENT is well positioned as a leader in the photonic industry and its 3D MEMS technology has great applications in the government and intelligence markets. I look forward to leveraging my years of military and government experience to guide the company in these new market areas,” Chandler said.

Masri currently serves as president and CEO of Qualtre, Inc., a startup focused on commercializing the next generation of motion sensors. Previous positions include president and CEO of 3Com Corporation and general partner at Matrix Partners. Masri holds a Diplome d’Ingenieur from Ecole Centrale de Paris, a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Masters of Business Administration with distinction (Arjay Miller Scholar) from Stanford University.

“CALIENT’s proven track record in the 3D MEMS market paired with the flexibility of its new strategy position the company for success in these new markets and I look forward to being a part of this next move for CALIENT,” Masri said.
