Hong Kong is one of the world’s most important marketplaces for electronics. At IFA, from September 3rd to 8th, 55 companies from the metropolis will attend the trade fair to present their latest developments (2009: 50).
Thirty-five of them (2009: 24) will be exhibiting at the country pavilion of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) (Hall 26c, Stand 800) supplemented by an area presenting “green products” from 26 companies.
The extensive range of products and services supplied by the Hong Kong companies stretches from home entertainment systems, entertainment electronics for automobiles and backpacks with solar modules all the way to energy-saving electrical household appliances.
Trend products such as iPhone and iPod are supplemented with attractive loudspeakers by Sinowise Industrial (HK) Ltd. or the KW1019 sound station by Kenwin Industrial (HK) Ltd.. Sensor Industries Ltd. offers musical fun with the LED “Singing Bulb”. Looking like a commercial energy-saving lamp it contains a loudspeaker and a wireless receiver to transfer the music of MP3 players. The electronic “Restaurant Self Order Terminal” is a new introduction of GS Group Sense Int. Ltd.. Guests can order their meals direct from the kitchen.
Imego Infinity Ltd. has extended its range with the “vintage” headphones series. Music lovers can choose headphones for heavy metal, classical music or for bass sounds.
eBook-Readers are on the advance worldwide. The new models of Pipo Technology Co. Ltd. have various brightness levels so that they function even in direct sunlight and have a running time of up to 22 hours or 7500 pages.
The exhibitors of the Hong Kong pavilion will also focus on environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. With the backpacks from Mascotte Ind. electronic equipment can be recharged using integrated solar cells. The devices will be connected inside the bag. The flexible Thin Film Solar Technology allows energy generation even when there is a shortage of light.
The Diamond Toaster of AME Advanced Materials Enterprises Co. Ltd. for toast to baguettes operates on 180 watts and is up to five times as energy efficient as comparable models - thanks to the patented NanoHeat®Technology. For this development AME received the Technological Achievement Award 2009 by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Cooperation.
In 2009, Hong Kong continued to be the second largest electronics exporter worldwide. Thereof 35% related to the sectors of audio-visual products including TV and radio appliances (USD 27.8 billion), telecommunications equipment (USD 28.4 billion) and electrical household appliances (USD 2.3 billion). Top trade partners were mainland China, the US and Europe. Being hit by the economic crisis in 2009 exports from January to July 2010 increased again significantly (between 16% and 29%) and reached already USD 37.9 billion by end of July.
