Carestream's FLEXX Silver Nanowire Sensors Operate Seamlessly with Cypress TrueTouch Controllers

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. and Carestream Advanced Materials announced that Cypress TrueTouch® capacitive touchscreen controllers now work with touch panel designs using silver nanowire sensors from Carestream, here at Mobile World Congress.

The companies are now developing true single-layer sensor panel solutions using Cypress's SLIM® (Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch) sensor and Carestream's FLEXX sensor. The resulting solutions will enable more accurate and responsive user interfaces for smartphones, tablets, wearables and other touchscreen applications.

Touchscreens are constantly evolving in terms of size, surface, shape and performance. Carestream's FLEXX Transparent Conductive Films (TCF) provide innovative features for improving the design of touch panel displays. FLEXX silver nanowire film sensors offer lower resistance than traditional indium tin oxide (ITO) film sensors, enabling lower cost sensor designs, faster panels and better scanning performance for larger screens. At lower sheet resistances, FLEXX films maintain excellent optical characteristics including extremely high transmission and neutral color. FLEXX film sensors are very flexible, allowing designers to provide accurate capacitive touch capability with bendable displays and curved surfaces. Cypress is partnering with leading silver nanowire vendors to make the technology accessible to its customers.

"Designers have been seeking TCF materials that enable new touch panel designs that offer both high performance and low cost," said Paul Herro, General Manager at Carestream Advanced Materials. "We have worked with Cypress to ensure our FLEXX silver nanowire sensors operate seamlessly with their TrueTouch controllers, delivering a cost-efficient touchscreen solution with innovative scanning performance for smartphones, wearables, tablets and other portable devices."

"Teaming up with Carestream is another example of Cypress's design philosophy for TrueTouch -- providing our customers with as many options as possible to create the best design for their application," said John Carey, Senior Director of TrueTouch Marketing at Cypress. "Our customers have the design freedom to select silver nanowire sensors or other technologies from their vendor of choice, and pair this with the world-leading features of our Gen5 family and other TrueTouch controllers."

About TrueTouch
Cypress's TrueTouch technology provides the industry's best noise immunity, highest SNR, best waterproofing, fastest refresh rates, lowest power consumption, and world's best accuracy and linearity. The flexible TrueTouch solution allows customers to rapidly develop leading-edge solutions without having to buy turnkey modules. They have a choice of using touch sensors (glass or film) and LCDs from preferred partners, and can develop innovative mechanical designs ranging from flat to curved surfaces of varying thickness. The patented capacitive sensing technology of TrueTouch devices offers robust noise immunity that enables flawless operation in noisy RF and LCD environments.
