Aviza Technology Ships Multiple Sigma fxP PVD Systems to Leading RF Device Manufacturer

Aviza Technology, Inc., a supplier of advanced semiconductor capital equipment and process technologies for the global semiconductor industry and related markets, today announced that it has shipped multiple Sigma fxP PVD systems to a leading RF device manufacturer. This company is ranked as one of the top three manufacturers of Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) devices.

Aviza has established a solid reputation as a leading provider of high productivity systems and process technology expertise for PVD, etch and CVD processing to support III-V/compound semiconductor applications. Aviza’s systems are installed in 8 of the top 10 GaAs-based IC manufacturers worldwide, and the Company continues to strengthen its process of record (PoR) status at these customers’ manufacturing sites by continuing to secure follow-on orders. A series of recent order announcements for a combination of Aviza’s PVD, etch or CVD systems is further validation of this trend.

“Aviza is one of the largest suppliers of sputtering systems to this customer,” said Kevin Crofton, Senior Vice President, Product Business Units of Aviza Technology, Inc. “We are pleased to announce these follow-on shipments, which is further evidence of Sigma fxP’s capability to meet the specialized PVD processing requirements for GaAs devices.”

The compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) for the GaAs device market through 2012 is estimated to be approximately 10 percent. The demand for GaAs-based integrated circuits (ICs) is fuelled by wireless applications in cell phones and Wi-Fi, with wireless applications expected to account for about 85 percent of all GaAs devices consumed in 2012, according to the research firm Strategy Analytics, Inc.
