Major Qualifications

Having spent relatively longtime in five different countries, Dr Valev has had a very international and multicultural life experience. He was born in the town of Silistra in Bulgaria during the summer of 1976. Fifteen years later he moved to Brest in Brittany (France) for family reasons. At that time, Ventsislav had already made up his mind to become a doctor in physics, largely due to his interest in science fiction where the characters often happen to possess this particular trait.

Dr Valev studied for a bachelor degree in France, and then moved to Cardiff in the UK for his masters. The next step took Dr Valev to the Netherlands for five years. Afterwards, he moved to KU Leuven in Belgium, one of the oldest universityies in Europe - founded in 1425. Dr Valev worked there until October 2012, when he moved to the Cavendish Laboratory in the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge, UK, working in Prof. Jeremy Baumberg's research group.
