New Nanostructured Metal-Oxide Catalytic System Converts CO2 to Methanol Efficiently

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory have discovered a new catalytic system for converting carbon dioxide (CO2) to methanol-a key commodity used to create a wide range of industrial chemicals and fuels. With significantly higher activity than other catalysts now in use, the new system could make it easier to get normally unreactive CO2 to participate in these reactions.

Danish Fish Farm to Install LiqTech Silicon Carbide Membrane System

LiqTech International, Inc. ("LiqTech") is pleased to announce that the Company received a $350,000 Silicon Carbide (SiC) membrane system order from a Danish customer to be delivered this year. Peptide Nanofiber Scaffold Holds Hope for Intracerebral Hemorrhage Treatment

Intracerebral hemorrhage is a type of stroke that affects two million people worldwide each year. Despite its seriousness, no effective treatment has yet been developed. But if a recent study in the journal Nanomedicine is right, good news for doctors and patients might one day arrive in a very small package: namely, a “peptide nanofiber scaffold.”

Material Surface Structure Designed at the Nanoscopic Level Can Make it Appear in Different Colors

Long before humans figured out how to create colors, nature had already perfected the process — think stunning, bright butterfly wings of many different hues, for example. Now scientists are tapping into those secrets to develop a more environmentally friendly way to make colored plastics. Their paper on using structure — or the shapes and architectures of materials — rather than dyes, to produce color appears in the ACS journal Nano Letters.
