Applied Nanotech to Develop GFRP Panels to Protect Facilities from Multiple Threats

Applied Nanotech has been awarded a contract worth $275,642 from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's Construction Engineering Research Laboratory for the development of glass fiber-reinforced composite (GFRP) panels to provide enhanced protection to facilities from blast and ballistic threats, degradation, seismic events and electromagnetic interference.

Scientists from the Electronic & Magnetic Materials & Devices (EMMD) Group at the Center for Nanoscale Materials have used cryogenic ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy to observe extremely weak molecule-surface interactions between fullerene C60 deposited over graphene grown epitaxially on silicon carbide substrates.
