Midatech to Advance Biocompatible Gold-Nanoparticle Technology for Nano-Medical Applications through New Funding

Midatech Ltd., a global leader in the design, synthesis and manufacture of nanomedicines based on its unique biocompatible gold-nanoparticles (GNP), is pleased to announce that is has successfully raised £10 million through the issue of new equity. The investment round was led by Ippon Capital SA, a Geneva-based private equity firm, which committed £7.6 million with the remainder coming from existing investors.

‘Ecosystem for Nanotechnology, Entrepreneurship and Law’ Educational Program Launched

In support of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s nanotechnology-based education and economic development strategy, the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) and Albany Law School (Albany Law) today announced the launch of a joint educational program, “Ecosystem for Nanotechnology, Entrepreneurship and Law,” (eNTEL) which will integrate the strengths of each institution to uniquely prepare student entrepreneurs to launch startup companies and attract business investment as a means of further driving New York’s fast-growing innovation economy.

Researchers Study Atomic Level Reaction of Metallic Nanoparticles with the Environment

Crucially, the research led by the University of York and reported in Nature Materials, shows that oxidation of metals - the process that describes, for example, how iron reacts with oxygen, in the presence of water, to form rust - proceeds much more rapidly in nanoparticles than at the macroscopic scale. This is due to the large amount of strain introduced in the nanoparticles due to their size which is over a thousand times smaller than the width of a human hair.
