Manufacturer Utilizes Imprio HD2200 Nanopatterning System to Accelerate Patterned Media Efforts

Molecular Imprints, Inc., the market and technology leader for nanopatterning systems and solutions, today announced that Yamagata Fujitsu has placed an order for its newly introduced Imprio(R) HD2200. The system will be used for patterned media development at the company's manufacturing facility in Japan. Driven by the need to substantially enhance storage capacities and decrease cost, hard disk drive (HDD) companies are increasingly turning to Molecular Imprints' high-resolution, low cost-of-ownership (CoO) nanopatterning systems. This sale represents the ninth Imprio system sold to the HDD industry in total, and the seventh sold to the HDD industry within the past 12 months. The Imprio HD2200 follows the successful Imprio 1100 system, and offers important new capabilities -- including fully-automated double-sided patterning-which are driving adoption by leading HDD companies.

By leveraging proprietary Drop-on-Demand(TM) technology, Molecular Imprints' S-FIL(R) platform provides superior resolution, CoO and extendibility over competing spin-on UV and thermal imprint technologies. As the newest nanopatterning system from Molecular Imprints engineered specifically for the HDD market, the Imprio HD2200 delivers a high throughput of double-sided disks and superior precision pattern fidelity-making it the world's most advanced nanopatterning system for patterned media applications.

"With the Imprio HD2200, the disk drive industry for the first time has a nanopatterning system capable of patterned media advanced development and pilot production," said Paul Hofemann, vice president of marketing and business development for hard disk drives and emerging markets at Molecular Imprints. "This is our second-generation nanopatterning system for the HDD market, and it is demonstrating our ability to extend our core Step and Flash(R) Imprint Lithography technology to enable our customers to continue meeting their patterned media roadmaps. Its adoption by manufacturing leaders, like Yamagata Fujitsu, further validates our S-FIL technology as being uniquely suited to meeting their performance and cost-of-ownership challenges."
