IITs Identify Biotechnology and Nanotechnology As Growth Areas - News Item

Indian Institutes of Technology in Delhi, Bombay and Roorkee have identified biotechnology and nanotechnology as growth areas in research. They have subsequently nominated these fields as focus areas for funding in nthe hope of generating increases in intellectual property (IP).

IIT Bombay is in the process of forming research groups and will collaborate with industry to commercialise products. IIT Roorkee is looking at biotechnology, nanotechnology and nanosciences where IP can be developed within a time frame of around one year. IIT Roorkee is also to set up a centre of excellence for nanotechnology and nanosciences. IIT Delhi has set up separate funding measures for nanotechnology and biotechnology as well as embedded systems, rural industrialisation and environment sciences.
