Yissum Signs Multiple Advanced Materials Research and Licensing Agreements with ICL

Yissum Research Development Company Ltd., the Technology Transfer Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, announced today that it had signed multiple research and licensing agreements in the area of advanced materials with ICL, a global manufacturer of products based on specialty minerals that fulfill essential needs of the world’s growing population in the agriculture, processed food and engineered materials markets.

The expanded collaboration includes a research agreement involving work in the field of materials and 3D printing of Prof. Shlomo Magdassi, the Casali Institute of Applied Chemistry, the Institute of Chemistry and the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the Hebrew University, as well as a research and license agreement for an invention in the field of solar energy by Dr. Lioz Etgar from the Institute of Chemistry at the Hebrew University.

These inventions join the on-going research collaboration between Yissum and ICL Innovation, ICL's technology incubator and ICL Industrial Products (ICL IP). The collaboration was established in 2014, in the field of sol-gel, researched by Prof. David Avnir, from the Institute of Chemistry. Under these agreements, ICL IP will have the option to purchase exclusive license to use any invention or product resulting from specific joint research endeavors.

Yaacov Michlin, CEO of Yissum, stated: “We are excited to expand this research collaboration, which leads to the production of novel advanced materials, and hope that the partnership with a leading company such as ICL will propel the capabilities of the Israeli industry.”

Eyal Ginzberg, Senior Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, ICL: “ICL places great importance in developing new and advanced materials that will address the growing needs of humanity in the agriculture, food and advanced materials markets. These products and technologies will be more effective and more environmentally friendly. In addition to a broad and global internal research and development activity, ICL actively promotes new ideas and collaborations with many varied partners aside from the ICL Group. We are very happy to expand the collaboration with Yissum and the Hebrew University, which provides us with the opportunity to develop novel, creative and ground breaking technologies that will offer a significant contribution to the growing world population.”
