MEMSIC Unveils Advanced Wireless Sensor Node Platform

Andover, Massachusetts-based, MEMSIC recently unveiled its LOTUS, a wireless sensor node platform designed around the power efficient ARM7 Cortex M3 CPU and integrates Imote2, IRIS and TelosB on a single board.

It has been constructed on a modular and stackable design that includes expansion board connectors. It features capabilities that increase the overall functionality of the company’s sensor networking systems. It can also be incorporated into the company’s earlier MDA and MTS Sensor Data Acquisition Boards.

The platform will enable the current Imote2 and OEM developers and applications that call for GSM/GPRS gateways. It features a 32Bit/100MHz processor, 64kB SRAM, 512kB FLASH, 64MB serial FLASH memory and an in-built radio conforming to 802.15.4 that has an on-board antenna and an USB Client with an on-board  mini-B connector. It operates at 50mA on-state and 10uA in stand-by mode.

It has been pre-fabricated to run RTOS (Real Time Operating System). Other features include IAR Systems Free RTOS, Memsic Kiel, TinyOS RTOS and MoteRunner . The 51 pin expansion connector supports UART, Digital I/O, SPI, Analog Inputs and I2CI interfaces allowing for easy connection to multiple external peripherals.
