A-828: High Performance Motion Controller

The PI A-82× motion controller series provides a fully integrated electronics solution in a small 4-U-high 19-inch rack unit, including a controller, drives, and power supply.

The A-82× controllers are created and enhanced with PIglide air-bearing stages with high-resolution encoders, direct drive linear, and rotation servo motors. Modern ACS SPiiPlusEC motion controller and EtherCAT master are included in the A-82× motion controller.

Absolute encoders that employ the BiSS-C data protocol and inputs for incremental sine and cosine are standard options.

A 16384× integrated interpolation factor is included for sine/cosine encoder support. All controllers have built-in flash memory that can store motion programs and settings.

The A-82× controllers can be operated independently using pre-stored programs or under external PC control. For programming and starting, a PC is needed. The controller comes with all software.

The servo tuning, controller starting, and error calibration will all be handled by PI if the controller is purchased along with a PIglide air-bearing stage or positioning system. This will result in a fully functional, ready-to-use positioning system.

The A-824.2N×00 models incorporate ACS’s NanoPWM technology. For difficult positioning applications, they provide the best feasible solution: subnanometer position holding, tracking errors that are only a few nanometers, and ideal velocity constancy.

A real substitute for linear drives is nanoPWM since it offers comparable performance at a lower cost and requires less system space overall.
