New Technique in Reading and Evaluating DNA or RNA Assays

A new method for reading DNA (or RNA) microarrays is based on measuring the electrostatic repulsion between silica microspheres and hybridized DNA. Surface areas containing double-stranded DNA (red) or single-stranded DNA (blue) can be easily distinguished from each other and from background areas by the naked eye. Renowned Japanese Corneal Researcher to Confirm NanoViricides Ekc-Cide Animal Study Results

NanoViricides, Inc., said that an internationally renowned Japanese ophthalmologist and corneal researcher, Kazuo Tsubota, MD, PhD, has agreed to perform confirmatory animal efficacy studies of the nanoviricide anti-EKC drug candidate, EKC-Cide(TM), against EKC (epidemic kerato-conjunctivitis) in Japan. Record Light Conversion Efficiency in Solvent-Free Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

In a paper published online June 29 in the journal Nature Materials, EPFL professor Michael Graetzel, Shaik Zakeeruddin and colleagues from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have achieved a record light conversion efficiency of 8.2% in solvent-free dye-sensitized solar cells. This breakthrough in efficiency without the use of volatile organic solvents will make it possible to pursue large scale, outdoor practical application of lightweight, inexpensive, flexible dye-sensitized solar films that are stable over long periods of light and heat exposure.
