Tetrapod Quantum Dots Enable Precise Measurement of Polymer Fiber’s Tensile Strength

Fluorescent tetrapod nanocrystals could light the way to the future design of stronger polymer nanocomposites. A team of researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has developed an advanced opto-mechanical sensing technique based on tetrapod quantum dots that allows precise measurement of the tensile strength of polymer fibers with minimal impact on the fiber’s mechanical properties.

FDA Clears IntelligentMDx’s Automated Molecular Diagnostic Test for Detection of VRE Associated Genes

IntelligentMDx (privately held) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared its automated molecular diagnostic test that detects the presence of vanA and vanB genes that can be associated with vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). This is one of the tests in IMDx's portfolio of infectious disease products to be cleared by the FDA for use on Abbott's fully automated m2000 platform.
