Carving Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes with a STM

This video outlines a new approach to carving nanomaterials atom by atom using a scanning transmission microscope. The video comes from the research scientists from the Nano2Hybrids European research project.

Shaping single walled nanotubes

The research team were able to use the STM to change the diameter of organic and inorganic single walled nanotubes. Additionally, they were able to cut notches into the tubes and even reshape them.
