Researchers Discover Superior Radiation Tolerance of Cu with Nanovoids and Nanotwins

Texas A&M University mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering researchers led by Dr. Xinghang Zhang have discovered superior radiation tolerance of Cu with nanovoids and nanotwins. Their paper, entitled “Damage tolerant nanotwinned metals with nanovoids under radiation environments” was published in the April 2015 issue in Nature Communications.

Pioneer of Coherent Diffractive Imaging Analyzes Rapid Development of Brilliant X-ray Sources

In 1999, UCLA professor John Miao pioneered a technique called coherent diffractive imaging, or CDI, which allows scientists to re-create the 3D structure of noncrystalline samples or nanocrystals. The achievement was extremely significant because although X-ray crystallography had long allowed scientists to determine the atomic structure of a wide variety of molecules, including DNA, it does not work for noncrystalline materials used in a variety of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, geology and biology.

Xilinx and TSMC Collaborate on 7nm Process for Next Generation of All Programmable FPGAs, MPSoCs, and 3D Ics

Xilinx, Inc. announced that it has collaborated with TSMC on the 7nm process and 3D IC technology for its next generation of All Programmable FPGAs, MPSoCs, and 3D ICs. The technology represents the fourth consecutive generation where the two companies have worked together on advanced process and CoWoS 3D stacking technology, and will become TSMC's fourth generation of FinFET technology. The collaboration will provide Xilinx a multi-node scaling advantage and build on its outstanding product, execution, and market success at 28nm, 20nm, and 16nm nodes.
