Bendable, Light-Emitting Nanocellulose Paper Infused with Biocompatible Quantum Dots

The rapid evolution of gadgets has brought us an impressive array of "smart" products from phones to tablets, and now watches and glasses. But they still haven't broken free from their rigid form. Now scientists are reporting in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces a new step toward bendable electronics. They have developed the first light-emitting, transparent and flexible paper out of environmentally friendly materials via a simple, suction-filtration method.

Researchers Create Unexpected Shapes of Mesoscale Atoms

Unexpected shapes of mesoscale atoms -- structures built of microdroplets encapsulated within microdroplets -- have been created at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. The discovery was possible with a new method for precise control over placement of tiny segments of liquid, one in another. With further progress in innovative microfluidic systems, the method may find use in medicine and materials science.

Nano Health & Safety Consortium Launched by SUNY Poly CNSE and NIOSH

As a testament to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s pioneering leadership in establishing New York State’s global prominence in nanoelectronics research and development and commercialization, SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (SUNY Poly CNSE) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) today announced the launch of the Nano Health & Safety Consortium (NHSC).

A research group led by Yusuke Yamauchi, NIMS, in cooperation with other research organizations in Japan and overseas, successfully developed a nanoporous gold material with a regular, uniform pore arrangement using polymers as a template.

NIH Awards Grant to Develop ‘Nanobombs’ to Treat Biofilm Infection in Chronic Wounds

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded Kent State University's Min-Ho Kim, Ph.D., assistant professor of biological sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, a $1,842,350 five-year grant. The grant from the NIH's National Institute of Nursing Research is to develop "nanobombs," a nanotechnology-based therapeutic platform that can treat biofilm infection in chronic wounds.

Nanoco Welcomes Decision by MEPs to Reject Cadmium in Quantum Dots

Nanoco Group plc, a world leader in the development and manufacture of cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials, confirms that Members of the European Parliament (“MEPs”) have overwhelming voted against a proposed extension of an exemption to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) which would have allowed the use of cadmium-containing quantum dots in Europe.
