ZEISS Introduces Ultra Load Stage for ZEISS Xradia Ultra 3D X-Ray Microscopes

ZEISS announces the new Ultra Load Stage for ZEISS Xradia Ultra 3D X-ray microscopes (XRM). Xradia Ultra Load Stage uniquely enables in situ nanomechanical testing -- compression, tension, indentation -- with non-destructive 3D tomographic imaging. For the first time, researchers will be able to image the evolution of structure in 3D under load down to 50 nm resolution. This new capability applies to a wide range of interests, covering both engineered and natural materials.

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. today announced that Spreadtrum Communications (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. utilized the new Cadence® Innovus™ Implementation System to dramatically reduce the turnaround time of a multi-million-cell 28-nanometer (nm) intellectual property (IP) block while delivering to its power, performance, and area (PPA) goals. Spreadtrum’s TAT for this IP block was reduced significantly while meeting the original PPA targets compared to its previous solution.

Graphene Oxide Effectively Eliminates Bacteria Associated with Dental Diseases

Dental diseases, which are caused by the overgrowth of certain bacteria in the mouth, are among the most common health problems in the world. Now scientists have discovered that a material called graphene oxide is effective at eliminating these bacteria, some of which have developed antibiotic resistance. They report the findings in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

New Criterion for Seeking Suitable Substrate Materials for Graphene

Physicists from Forschungszentrum Jülich have developed a criterion with which scientists can seek suitable substrate materials for graphene in a targeted way. Interactions with the substrate material often lead to a loss of the amazing properties that characterize this special form of carbon. Together with partners at other institutions, the scientists were able to demonstrate that the influence exerted by the substrate on the electronic properties of graphene can be estimated by means of a simple structural parameter. The related publication was chosen as the Editor's Suggestion of the journal Physical Review Letters.
