Penn State Creates New Center for Two-Dimensional and Layered Materials

The promise of nanoscale science is that useful and unprecedented properties appear when materials are shrunk to the size of 100 nanometers or less. Now, Penn State and the Materials Research Institute have launched a center to discover what new properties can be created when atom-thick 2-dimensional layers of elemental materials and chemical compounds are formed or when those layers are built up into completely new 3-dimensional structures.

Advenira to Provide Solution Derived Nanocomposite Coatings for Novomet Submersible Pumping Systems

Advenira Enterprises Inc., a developer of Solution Derived Nanocomposite (SDN™) coating technology, announced that it has recently executed a joint development agreement (JDA) with Novomet, a Russian company that supplies oil mining equipment throughout the world. Under the agreement Advenira will provide coatings for submersible pumping systems developed by Novomet.

Carbon Nanotube Arrays for Field Electron Emitters to be Tested in Space

A pair of carbon nanotube arrays will be flying in space by the end of the year to test technology that could provide more efficient micro-propulsion for future generations of spacecraft. Part of a Cube Satellite (CubeSat) developed by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), the arrays will support what is expected to be the first-ever space-based testing of carbon nanotubes as electron emitters.
