Researchers Combine Gold Nanoparticles with Small Interfering RNAs to Counter Glioblastoma

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the brain cancer that killed Sen. Edward Kennedy and kills approximately 13,000 Americans a year, is aggressive and incurable. Now a Northwestern University research team is the first to demonstrate delivery of a drug that turns off a critical gene in this complex cancer, increasing survival rates significantly in animals with the deadly disease.

Researchers Develop Microbeam Emitter Using Carbon Nanotube-Based X-Ray Source Array Technology

Microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) provides tremendous promise for cancer patients through its ability to destroy tumor cells while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. Yet research into its clinical use has been limited by the sheer size of the technology required to generate the beams. Until now, administering MRT required massive electron accelerators known as synchrotrons.

PAMS Project Aims to Design Sub-Nanometer Range Electronic Components

Professor Angelika Kühnle and her work group at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) are participating in a new EU project focusing on information and communication technology. Over the next four years, a total of eight partners from six European countries will be involved in the "Planar Atomic and Molecular Scale Devices" (PAMS) project.

sureCore Ltd has announced that it has taped out its low power SRAM IP demonstrator chip in STMicroelectronics’ 28nm Fully Depleted Silicon-on-Insulator (FD-SOI) process. The device will validate the benefits of sureCore’s patented array control and sensing scheme, which significantly lowers active power consumption to deliver greater than 50% power savings compared to current offerings in the same process.
