Veeco to Supply NEXUS Ion Beam Etch System to EPFL

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced today that École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), one of Europe’s top technical universities, has ordered a NEXUS® Ion Beam Etch (IBE) System. The system will be used for state-of-the-art research and development projects in micro- and nano-fabrication at its Lausanne, Switzerland site.

Cadence Gets Support from Foundry Partners for Virtuoso Advanced Node

Cadence Design Systems, Inc., a leader in global electronic design innovation, announced today that two of its major foundry partners -- Samsung Foundry and GLOBALFOUNDRIES -- are supporting new Cadence® custom/analog technology targeting designs at the advanced nodes of 20 and 14 nanometers. The two foundries are providing SKILL-based process design kits (PDKs) for the newly introduced Cadence Virtuoso® Advanced Node.

One-Atom-Thick Triangular Structures Show Promise for Optical Applications

For the first time, scientists have created single layers of a naturally occurring rare mineral called tungstenite, or WS2. The resulting sheet of stacked sulfur and tungsten atoms forms a honeycomb pattern of triangles that have been shown to have unusual light-emitting, or photoluminescent, properties.

Many medically minded researchers are in hot pursuit of designs that will allow drug-carrying nanoparticles to navigate tissues and the interiors of cells, but University of Michigan engineers have discovered that these particles have another hurdle to overcome: escaping the bloodstream.

Innovative Nanosensors Detect Survival Status of Transplanted Cells

Researchers at Johns Hopkins have devised a way to detect whether cells previously transplanted into a living animal are alive or dead, an innovation they say is likely to speed the development of cell replacement therapies for conditions such as liver failure and type 1 diabetes. As reported in the March issue of Nature Materials, the study used nanoscale pH sensors and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines to tell if liver cells injected into mice survived over time.

Celsion Updates Status of its Patent Application ‘Method of Storing Nanoparticle Formulations’

Celsion Corporation today announced that Zheijang HISUN Pharmaceutical Company (HISUN) does not plan to pursue the exclusive option to license ThermoDox® for the Greater China market. Accordingly, the parties will not enter into the exclusive license agreement, and Celsion will not receive nor will it require any future payment for the option or license, as contemplated in the Exclusive Option Agreement announced on January 22, 2013.
