KET Pilot Line Projects Enable ENIAC JU Research to Reach €1.8B in 2012

The total R&D volume engaged in the ENIAC Joint Undertaking (JU) programme reached 1.8B Euro at the end of 2012. 2012 projects sum up to more than 4 times the volume achieved two years before, thanks to ambitious Key Enabling Technologies (KET) Pilot Line projects and enabled by a strong involvement of the ENIAC member States. The budget available for 2013 allows supporting R&D projects approaching 1 B euro total eligible costs.

X-ray Lasers with Nanocrystals Employed to Identify Medicines for Sleeping Sickness

As a Scientific Highlight for 2012, the journal Science has listed the top ten scientific articles published in Science and Nature during the year. Researchers Richard Neutze and Gergely Katona of the University of Gothenburg are co-authors of one of the articles, which reports on the potential for identifying new medicines for sleeping sickness using X-ray lasers to investigate the structure of proteins at atomic level.
