NIMS Announces Details of 11th International Symposium on Nanotechnology (JAPAN NANO 2013)

The Nanotechnology Platform Project is a project which was commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with the aim of producing research results that will lead to innovations, in which 25 research institutions with leading-edge nanotechnology facilities and equipment in the three fields of Microstructural Characterization, Nanofabrication, and Molecule & Material Synthesis will provide opportunities for researchers in industry, academia, and government agencies throughout Japan to use those facilities.

KaiStar Lighting Places Order for Veeco’s Multi-and Single-Chamber TurboDisc MOCVD Systems

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced today that the Company has received an order for multi- and single-chamber TurboDisc® MOCVD Systems, including the new MaxBright® M™, from KaiStar Lighting Co., Ltd. KaiStar, a joint venture between Epistar Corporation and Shenzhen Kaifa Technology Co., Ltd., is based in Xiamen, China and began LED production in 2012. The systems will be added to KaiStar’s existing fleet of Veeco MOCVD systems as part of their 2013 capacity expansion plan.

SMIC Purchases Multiple Systems from Carl Zeiss for Photomask Verification, Repair and Metrology

The Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), headquartered in Shanghai, China, have purchased multiple systems for photomask verification, repair and metrology from Carl Zeiss Semiconductor Metrology Systems (SMS) Division (www.zeiss.com/sms), a leading supplier of both photomask metrology and manufacturing equipment. SMIC will apply the tools as economic solutions for their mask services.

A major semiconductor discrete manufacturer has purchased an additional Surface Tension Gradient Dryer (STGD) from MicroTech because of its ability to dry thin wafers without damage to the wafer's thin films. This is the second order to the manufacturer by MicroTech, a Silicon Valley wet process station supplier.

Study Shows How Redox Chemistry Determines the Adsorption Strength of Gold Nanoparticles on Modified Oxide

The strong binding of gold on electronically modified calcium oxide can now be understood in detail. In a computational study, researchers Jenni Andersin, Janne Nevalaita, Karoliina Honkala and Hannu Häkkinen at the University of Jyväskylä Nanoscience Center have shown how redox chemistry entirely determines the adsorption strength of gold on the modified oxide where one metal atom is replaced with molybdenum. The study was funded by the Academy of Finland.
