Chesapeake PERL Receives NCI Award to Develop Protein Nanoparticle for Lung Cancer Therapy

Chesapeake PERL has received a Small Business Innovation Research award from the National Cancer Institute to continue development of a protein nanoparticle linked to an antitumor agent as a potential lung cancer therapeutic. C-PERL collaborators in the laboratory of Dr. Leonard Rome, Professor of Biological Chemistry at UCLA have identified and characterized the vault particle, a unique nanoparticle structure ubiquitous in eukaryotes.

Professors at NJIT Receive Edison Awards for Research on Bionanotechnology

NJIT Research Professor Reginald Farrow and NJIT Professor Gordon Thomas will be the recipients Nov. 8, 2012 in the Liberty Science Center of an Edison Patent Award from the Research & Development Council of New Jersey. The event, which kicks off the Council's 50th Anniversary celebration, will honor more than 30 inventors and 13 New Jersey companies and universities.

Scientists Develop Nanotechnology Copper-Based Solder Material

Scientists in the Advanced Materials and Nanosystems directorate at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Palo Alto have developed a revolutionary nanotechnology copper-based electrical interconnect material, or solder, that can be processed around 200 °C. Once fully optimized, the CuantumFuse™ solder material is expected to produce joints with up to 10 times the electrical and thermal conductivity compared to tin-based materials currently in use. Applications in military and commercial systems are currently under consideration.
