Nanotextured Surfaces Boost Performance of Condensers in Power Generation Systems

Condensers are a crucial part of today’s power generation systems: About 80 percent of all the world’s powerplants use them to turn steam back to water after it comes out of the turbines that turn generators. They are also a key element in desalination plants, a fast-growing contributor to the world’s supply of fresh water.

Nanorod-Groove System Enhances Electric Fields around Nanostructures

Enhanced local electric fields are predominant in nonlinear optical properties, particularly in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), which is a sensitive technique used for the detection of trace amounts of chemicals. Analysis of the electric fields around nanostructures indicates that they can provide a basic foundation to obtain greater SERS intensity.

As McLaren’s sole tyre supplier and technical partner, Pirelli has developed bespoke versions of the P Zero and P Zero Corsa on the new MP4-12C for road and track use respectively. The performance of this “dedicated” tyre were tested last week on the Ascari circuit, near Ronda (Spain), during the presentation of the new supercar.
