Researchers Demonstrate the Use of Semiconductor Nanocrystals in Photochemistry

The transfer of triplet exciton energy from semiconductor nanocrystals to molecular acceptors that are surface-bound has been outlined by North Carolina State University researchers. This transfer extends the duration of the excited state that was initially developed by six orders of magnitude. The discovery is applicable in a wide range of fields such as photochemical synthesis, solar energy conversion, light therapy for treating cancer, and optoelectronics.

Researchers Determine Structure of Water-Soluble Gold Nanoparticles in Solution

Scientists have successfully measured the dynamical behavior of the organic ligand layer of gold nanoparticles in water. This provides a better understanding of the structure of nanometer-scale gold particles in solution, and will allow the creation of controllable strategies for the functionalization of ligated nano-sized particles for a variety of applications. Researchers from the Colorado State University, USA and the University of Jyväskylä, Finland were involved in the study, and the results have been published in Nature Communications.
