University of Twente Laser Machining Project Awarded EU Grant

The University of Twente is receiving an EU grant for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie project titled 'Laser4Fun' involving the machining of surfaces with lasers. Laser machining is making a huge advance and there is enormous interest from industry. The UT researchers are becoming increasingly successful in adding a particular function to an existing surface with lasers. This results, for example, in bacteria-free medical equipment in hospitals, or water and oil repellent products in the packaging industry.

ASHG 2015: WaferGen to Launch ICELL8 Single-Cell System

WaferGen Bio-systems announced that the Company will commence the commercial launch of the ICELL8™ Single-Cell System at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Annual Meeting taking place October 6-8, 2015, in Baltimore, MD. The system will create a new standard for single-cell analysis, enabling unbiased isolation of up to 1,800 single cells on a single chip.

Platelet Membrane-Coated Nanogel Delivery System to Target Cancer

Researchers have for the first time developed a technique that coats anticancer drugs in membranes made from a patient's own platelets, allowing the drugs to last longer in the body and attack both primary cancer tumors and the circulating tumor cells that can cause a cancer to metastasize. The work was tested successfully in an animal model.

Perception Survey Reveals Increased Optimism in Implementation of EUV Lithography for Semiconductor HVM

The eBeam Initiative, a forum dedicated to the education and promotion of new semiconductor manufacturing approaches based on electron beam (eBeam) technologies, today announced the completion of its fourth annual eBeam Initiative members' perceptions survey. A record 64 industry luminaries representing 35 different companies from across the semiconductor ecosystem—including chip design, equipment, materials and manufacturing as well as photomasks—participated in this year's survey.
