imec Demonstrates Pore-Sealing Low-K Dielectrics in Advanced Interconnects at SEMICON West

Nano-electronics research center imec announced today at SEMICON West that it has demonstrated concept and feasibilityfor pore-sealing low-k dielectrics in advanced interconnects. The method, based on the self-assembly of an organic monolayer, paves the way to scaling interconnects beyond N5.

SEMICON WEST 2015: imec and Besi Develop Automated Thermocompression Solution for Narrow-Pitch Die-to-Wafer Bonding

Today, at SEMICON WEST 2015 (San Francisco), world-leading nano-electronics research center imec and Besi, a global equipment supplier for the semiconductor and electronics industries announced that they have jointly developed an automated thermocompression solution for narrow-pitch die-to-wafer bonding, a method by which singulated dies are stacked onto bottom dies which are still part of a fully intact 300mm wafer. The solution features high accuracy and high throughput, paving the way to a manufacturable 2.5D, 3D, and 2.5D/3D hybrid technology.

Researchers Discover Giant Anelasticity in Zinc Oxide Nanowires

Researchers from Brown University and North Carolina State University have discovered that zinc oxide nanowires are highly anelastic, and this property could make these materials useful for absorbing vibrations and shocks.

Silver-Ion Infused Lignin Nanoparticles Effectively Kill Bacteria

A research group at North Carolina State University has developed a novel, eco-friendly method to fight bacteria by developing lignin nanoparticles infused with silver ions and coated with a single polyelectrolyte layer. The latest breakthrough may lead to improved efficiency of antimicrobial products utilized in personal care and agricultural applications and can pave the way for better, safer and greener nanotechnology. The study has been published in Nature Nanotechnology.

NanoSIMS Ion Probes Help Measure Very Sharp Concentration Gradients in Igneous Minerals

Super-eruptions are not the only type of eruption to be considered when evaluating hazards at volcanoes with protracted eruption histories, such as the Yellowstone (Wyoming), Long Valley (California), and Valles (New Mexico) calderas. There have been more than 23 effusive eruptions of rhyolite lava at Yellowstone since the last caldera-forming eruption ~640,000 years ago, all of similar or greater magnitude than the largest volcanic eruptions of the 20th century.
