Nanoparticles Packed with Chemotherapy and Coated with Chitosan Could Effectively Kill Cancer Stem-Like Cells

Nanoparticles packed with a clinically used chemotherapy drug and coated with an oligosaccharide derived from the carapace of crustaceans might effectively target and kill cancer stem-like cells, according to a recent study led by researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC - James). Cancer stem-like cells have characteristics of stem cells and are present in very low numbers in tumors.

3D Mapping of Carbon Nanotube Distribution in Composite Materials

Carbon nanotubes are small simple structures with several amazing properties but these properties have not been fully exploited as there is still something very mysterious about them. A research team including scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has now succeeded in unravelling a part of that mystery by developing advanced image collecting and processing techniques for mapping the nanoscale structure of carbon nanotubes within a composite material in three dimensions.

Rice Researchers Determine Electrical Properties of Nanocones and Other Graphene Forms

Based on calculations of theoretical physicists at Rice University and in Russia, it can be inferred that the electrical properties of graphene can be better controlled by flexing it. The researchers at the Rice lab of Boris Yakobson in association with Moscow researchers discovered that the effect could possibly occur in nanocones and also other graphene forms.
