New Method to Measure Conformation of Single Molecule “Wiring”

It’s nearly 50 years since Gordon Moore predicted that the density of transistors on an integrated circuit would double every two years. “Moore’s Law” has turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy that technologists pushed to meet, but to continue into the future, engineers will have to make radical changes to the structure or composition of circuits. One potential way to achieve this is to develop devices based on single-molecule connections.

Manhattan Scientifics Reacquires All Rights to Nano-Structured Metals Technology

Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. has reacquired all rights in its nano-structured metals technology from its former Licensee whose strategic corporate priorities had changed. The agreement includes a one-time payment to Manhattan of $8 million, the assignment to Manhattan of all related IP and the transfer of ownership of various ECAP machinery and equipment used in the manufacturing process of nano-structured metals. The additional non-cash value of this transaction exceeds $10 million.

Biodegradable Nano 'Drones' Could Prevent Heart Attacks Caused By Atherosclerosis

Nanometer-sized "drones" that deliver a special type of healing molecule to fat deposits in arteries could become a new way to prevent heart attacks caused by atherosclerosis, according to a study in pre-clinical models by scientists at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Columbia University Medical Center. These findings are published in the February 18th online issue of Science Translational Medicine.

Novel Method for Controlled 3D Crumpling of Graphene

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have developed a unique single-step process to achieve three-dimensional (3D) texturing of graphene and graphite. Using a commercially available thermally activated shape-memory polymer substrate, this 3D texturing, or "crumpling," allows for increased surface area and opens the doors to expanded capabilities for electronics and biomaterials.

Successful Direction-Controlled Growth of Nanographene Sheets from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Commercially available hydrocarbons were used as templates to synthesize uniform nanographene sheets using a series of sheet extending agents and a new transition metal catalyst, which were developed by Kyohei Ozaki, Katsuaki Kawasumi, Mari Shibata, Hideto Ito, and Professor Kenichiro Itami at Nagoya University's Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules (ITbM) and of the JST-ERATO Itami Molecular Nanocarbon Project.

Gigaphoton’s 140W EUV Light Source Performs at 50% Duty Cycle on its Prototype LPP Light Sources

Gigaphoton Inc., a major lithography light source manufacturer, announced today that it has successfully achieved continuous operation of 140W EUV light source at 50 percent duty cycle on its prototype laser-produced plasma (LPP) light sources for EUV lithography scanners. It is widely believed that 140W is the output power required by EUV light sources for mass production applications.
