MEMS Device Company, Motion Engine, to Continue Development of Motion Sensing Enabled Systems Technology

The Montreal start-up firm Motion Engine, Inc., a member of the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI), has completed a seed stage round of financing totaling approximately $ 1 million to continue the development of its proprietary next-generation motion sensing enabled systems technology. Angel investors from Canada, the United States and Asia participated in the round.

Tactile Sensors Created From Composite Films of Carbon Nanotubes and Silver Nanoparticles

From the world of nanotechnology we’ve gotten electronic skin, or e-skin, and electronic eye implants or e-eyes. Now we’re on the verge of electronic whiskers. Researchers with Berkeley Lab and the University of California (UC) Berkeley have created tactile sensors from composite films of carbon nanotubes and silver nanoparticles similar to the highly sensitive whiskers of cats and rats. These new e-whiskers respond to pressure as slight as a single Pascal, about the pressure exerted on a table surface by a dollar bill. Among their many potential applications is giving robots new abilities to “see” and “feel” their surrounding environment.

NUS GRC and BASF Partner to Develop Organic Electronic Devices using Graphene

The Graphene Research Centre (GRC) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Science and the world’s leading chemical company BASF have partnered to develop the use of graphene in organic electronic devices, such as organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The goal of this collaboration is to interface graphene films with organic electronic materials for the creation of more efficient and more flexible lighting devices.

Researchers Develop Wearable, Multifunctional Sensors Using Silver Nanowires

North Carolina State University researchers have used silver nanowires to develop wearable, multifunctional sensors that could be used in biomedical, military or athletic applications, including new prosthetics, robotic systems and flexible touch panels. The sensors can measure strain, pressure, human touch and bioelectronic signals such as electrocardiograms.
