Harvard University Professor Receives Tsinghua University Press-Springer Nano Research Award

Professor (Prof.) Charles M. Lieber – the Mark Hyman Professor of Chemistry at Harvard University – has been presented with the first-ever Tsinghua University Press-Springer Nano Research Award. Mr. Junfeng Zong, the President of Tsinghua University Press and Dr. Lu Ye, Managing Director and Editorial Director of Springer China, presented the award certification, while Profs. Hongjie Dai and Yadong Li, Editors-in-Chief of the journal Nano Research, jointly presented the award medal to Prof. Lieber.

IBM's Microelectronics Business to be Acquired by GLOBALFOUNDRIES

IBM and GLOBALFOUNDRIES today announced that they have signed a Definitive Agreement under which GLOBALFOUNDRIES plans to acquire IBM's global commercial semiconductor technology business, including intellectual property, world-class technologists and technologies related to IBM Microelectronics, subject to completion of applicable regulatory reviews. GLOBALFOUNDRIES will also become IBM's exclusive server processor semiconductor technology provider for 22 nanometer (nm), 14nm and 10nm semiconductors for the next 10 years.

Plastic Nanoparticles Can Negatively Affect Organisms in Freshwater Bodies

Organisms can be negatively affected by plastic nanoparticles, not just in the seas and oceans but in freshwater bodies too. These particles slow the growth of algae, cause deformities in water fleas and impede communication between small organisms and fish. These are the results of research carried out by Wageningen University and IMARES, part of Wageningen UR, published in the latest issue of Environmental Science and Technology. It is the first time that such effects of plastic on freshwater organisms have been studied.
