New Ultra-Fast, Low-Power Analog IP Products for Advanced 28nm Node from Cadence

Cadence Design Systems, Inc., a leader in global electronic design innovation, today introduced a suite of ultra-fast, low-power analog intellectual property (IP) products designed to enable the next generation of high-speed wired and wireless communications applications. These new products uniquely meet the needs of designers working with emerging high-speed protocols such as WiGig (802.11ad), which runs on a 60 GHz spectrum with potential data throughput up to 7Gbps, as well as LTE and LTE Advanced.

It was a result so unexpected that MIT researchers initially thought it must be a mistake: Under certain conditions, putting a cracked piece of metal under tension — that is, exerting a force that would be expected to pull it apart — has the reverse effect, causing the crack to close and its edges to fuse together.

New Precision Automotive Thin Film Chip Resistor Featuring High-Temperature Operation from Vishay Intertechnology

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new precision automotive thin film chip resistor featuring high-temperature operation to +155 °C with 100 % power, derated linearly to 0 mW power at +250°C. Providing a nearly 100 °C extension in operating temperature range over traditional thin film chip resistors, the AEC-Q200-qualified PATT offers a low absolute TCR as low as ± 25 ppm/°C and laser-trimmed tolerances down to ±0.1 %.

Researchers Make Progress in Understanding Unstable Atomic Nuclei

Researchers have come one step closer to understanding unstable atomic nuclei. A team of researchers from RIKEN, the University of Tokyo and other institutions in Japan and Italy has provided evidence for a new nuclear magic number in the unstable, radioactive calcium isotope 54Ca. In a study published today in the journal Nature, they show that 54Ca is the first known nucleus with 34 neutrons (N) where N = 34 is a magic number.

AIXTRON SE today announced that China’s National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST) has ordered AIXTRON’s BM R&D system for the growth of carbon-based structures such as nanotubes and graphene on 2-inch substrates. The system will be supported by AIXTRON’s local Chinese office.
